Delete your Kanamichi account
Kanamichi: Learn Japanese · by Kanamichi, LLC
You can delete your Kanamichi account and its data at any time, in two ways. Both delete the same things.
In the app
- Open Settings and stay on the General tab.
- Under Account, open “Reset progress · delete my account”.
- Type DELETE in the box and tap Delete account.
The account is deleted at once, and the progress stored on that device is cleared too. This works the same in the iPhone and iPad app, in the Android app and at app.kanamichi.org. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel that subscription too — see Your subscription below.
By email
If you can’t use the app, email support@kanamichi.org from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete your account. We will delete it and confirm within 30 days. If you write from another address, we will ask you to confirm from the account’s address first, so nobody can delete your account but you.
What is deleted
- Your account: email address and password.
- Your first name and its katakana spelling.
- All synced progress and settings (lessons, passages, vocabulary, spirits, the weather city if you set one).
- Your plan record (entitlements) and usage counters.
- Reports you filed on AI replies, and feedback you sent.
- Cached teacher voice lines that contain your name and that only you have used. Other cached lines are not personal and stay. The record of which lines you played goes with your account.
Voice recordings and conversation text are never stored by Kanamichi, so there is nothing of them to delete.
What is kept
- Transaction records. Stripe (web), Google Play, Apple (App Store) and RevenueCat keep records of payments for as long as tax and accounting law requires. We keep the IDs of payment events we received, without your name or email.
- Technical logs kept for a limited period by our hosting providers.
Your subscription
Web subscription (Stripe): deleting your account cancels it immediately. No further charges are made; the rest of the current period is not refunded (see the refund terms).
Google Play subscription: deleting your account does not cancel it. Cancel it first in the Play Store app → profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Kanamichi → Cancel, or at your Google Play subscriptions page. Otherwise Google keeps charging you.
App Store subscription (iPhone and iPad): deleting your account does not cancel it. It keeps billing until you cancel it, and it stays with your Apple ID even after your Kanamichi account is deleted. Cancel it in the Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Kanamichi → Cancel Subscription. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
