Kanamichi

Learn to read Japanese, one station at a time.

Kanamichi takes you from your first hiragana to reading real Japanese: short passages set along a journey across Japan, the grammar each one needs, spaced-repetition vocabulary, and guided conversations you can speak out loud.

How it works

Kana school

Meet every hiragana and katakana, hear it, say it, then read real words that use only what you know.

The journey

Thirty stations from Tokyo to Shiretoko, ten short passages each, with furigana you can switch off as the kanji stick. Read a passage, check your reading, earn the stamp.

Grammar in place

Particles, counters, numbers and sentence endings, each introduced just before the passage that uses it.

Vocabulary that sticks

Every word you meet lands in a spaced-repetition deck. Add ready-made JLPT N5, N4 and Core 1000 decks, or your own words.

Guided conversations

Talk with a character at each station, step by step, speaking or typing. The AI listens, corrects gently, and keeps the conversation on track.

Spirits and the arena

Hatch a team of companions that grows as you learn, then send them into friendly battles of up to three a side where every move is a quiz.

Use it on your phone, tablet or computer — sign in and your progress follows you.
